Cazenovia, N.Y., native earns award for first time in career

EASTON, Mass. (March 17, 2010) – Stonehill College senior Shane Franz (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) has been named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for baseball by the Conference office.

Franz, who earns the weekly award for the first time in his career, hit .636 (7-for-11) with four runs scored, a double, home run and five RBI over four games for Stonehill during its spring break trip to central Florida. He slugged 1.000 and posted a .583 on-base percentage for the week as well.

Franz was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in an 8-5 setback to Assumption College in game one of a double-header on Monday. He was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in the Skyhawks 7-6 win over Bentley University on Wednesday, belting a game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Franz wrapped up the trip by hitting 2-for-5 with a double and run scored in a 7-6 setback to Bentley the next day.

Franz has started all six games he has played this season and is batting .381 (8-for-21) with four runs scored, a double, home run and five RBI. He boasts a .571 slugging percentage and .391 on-base percentage in the early part of the season. Franz shares the team lead with three multiple-hit and two multi-RBI games and has hit safely in three-straight games.

Franz has started 79 of the 98 games he has played over his Stonehill career and has collected 78 hits with 34 runs scored, 14 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 39 RBI.

Stonehill (2-5, 0-0 NE-10) opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule this afternoon at Southern New Hampshire University at 3:30 p.m. Live stats are available via www.stonehillskyhawks.com.
