Bruno Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Norwalk, Conn., native collects weekly award for first time in career

EASTON, Mass. (April 7, 2010) – Stonehill College junior first baseman Angelo Bruno (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) has been named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for baseball by the Conference office. It marks the third time this season a Skyhawk has earned the award as Bruno joins senior Shane Franz (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) and sophomore Rich McHugh (Pembroke, Mass./Thayer Academy) who collected the honors on March 15 and 22, respectively.

Bruno led Stonehill in a 2-2 week as he hit .400 (6-for-15) with five runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI with a stolen base. He slugged 1.133 to go with a .500 on-base percentage for the week. Bruno led Stonehill to a doubleheader sweep of American International College on Saturday as he hit a combined 5-for-7 with three home runs, a double, five runs scored, a stolen base and seven RBI for the afternoon. He was 3-for-4 with a double, two homers, three runs scored and five RBI in the Skyhawks’ 9-5 win in game two of the twinbill, after going 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI in their 9-8 victory in game one.

Bruno also contributed a double, finishing 1-for-4 at the plate, in game two of a doubleheader with Merrimack College on Wednesday.

Bruno is the lone Stonehill player to start all 20 games so far this season and he is hitting .338 (10th NE-10) with 13 runs scored, four doubles, a team and career-best six home runs (2nd) and 18 RBI (10th). He is slugging .635 (3rd) to go with a .451 on-base percentage (4th) and team-high five stolen bases, nine multiple hit and six multi-RBI games. He ranks fourth in the NE-10 with his team-best 16 walks.

Bruno, who played in his 100th career game on Tuesday against Bentley University, has hit .263 (88-for-335) over his career at Stonehill, adding 66 runs scored, 19 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs and 50 RBI with ten stolen bases.

Stonehill (10-10, 6-3 NE-10) is in the midst of a three-game midweek series with Bentley University this week. Following a home non-conference encounter this afternoon at Lou Gorman Field (3 p.m.), the Skyhawks and Falcons will conclude the series with an NE-10 matchup in Waltham tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Stonehill hosts Assumption College for an NE-10 doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
