The Details

  • Less than a minute into the opening frame (19:33), Stonehill wasted no time as Schwenninger skated behind Long Island's net and dished the puck back to Rapalje in the left face-off circle. From there, the freshman rifled home a one-timer past Perrone's glove side in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Stonehill continued their momentum later in the period at 15:27 when Rapalje corralled a juicy rebound after Ireland's initial shot was saved by Perrone and he beat the Sharks netminder wide open stick side. Rapalje's second goal marked the freshman's sixth multi-goal game of the year.
  • However, Long Island responded shortly after Rapalje's goal at 15:14 off the stick of Marcinkevics, and then nearly a minute later (14:25), the Sharks evened things at two. Long Island ultimately retook the lead and never looked back after Welsh's goal with 03:57 left in the first.
  • The Sharks continued their momentum early in the second and increased their lead to three (5-2) after goals from Zary and Rook at 16:36 and 14:56 respectively. Even with the two Long Island goals, Stonehill had their best look to get on the board at 10:55 when Rapalje peppered Perrone with back-to-back shots but was turned away each time. Rapalje also had a look at the end of the period but Perrone also stopped that shot.
  • After another Long Island goal early in the third to make it 6-2, Collins cut the deficit in half after he received a great feed from Rapalje and made it 6-3 with 13:33 left to play.
  • Despite cutting the Sharks' lead to three, Long Island tacked on three more goals in the final period behind Wallack (12:09 and 04:33) and Goodsir (02:53).
