The Details

  • Stonehill's offense was off to a fast start as they outshot New England College by a 14-2 margin and with a little over 10 minutes remaining (11:59), McElaney swung the puck up to Peloso who put a shot on net and despite Kozlowski making the save, Heath was in the right place to tap the puck in for a 1-0 lead.
  • Later in the first, the Skyhawks added their second goal of the evening when Davies found an open Collins who sent his shot past Kozlowski. Collins' goal in the first was the first of his collegiate career.
  • In the second period, both sides peppered the other goalie for the first 10 minutes including five big-time stops by Day which kept the shutout intact. With less than 10 minutes left in the period (08:42), Heath won the faceoff and swung the puck over to an open Davies who sent a wrister past Kozlowski for the 3-0 advantage. Like Collins, this goal also marked the first of Davies' career.
  • From there, the Purple and White tacked on three more goals off the sticks of Peloso (5:47), Pineo (5:16), and Rapalje (18:02) to make it 6-0.
  • With 11:35 left in the contest, Ghaemi made his collegiate debut after he took over for Day who finished with 11 saves. Four minutes into his appearance, Ghaemi was tested early but he made his first save with ease. Later in the period with just under five minutes remaining (04:57), Heath netted his second goal of the evening for the 7-0 advantage which the squad would hold on for the shutout.
  • Not only was today's seven goals a season-high, but the Skyhawks also posted a season-best, 40 shots as the team outshot the Pilgrims, 40-14. It was Stonehill's first time posting 40 shots since last year at Southern New Hampshire University (Jan.21-44 shots). Whereas the last time the Skyhawks posted seven or more goals was last year versus Johnson and Wales University (Dec.7-eight goals).
