The Details

  • After SUNY Potsdam grabbed an early 2-0 lead thanks to two first-period goals from Cruickshank and Quesnel, Stonehill's offense responded in the second when they scored two goals and outshot the Bears, 20-12.
  • With a little over 10 minutes left in the second (10:23), Tripp sent the puck up to Ireland who pushed up the ice and found a skating Rapalje coming down the middle. After his initial shot was stopped by Green, Rapalje followed up the miss and put the puck past Green's glove side for the Skyhawk's first goal.
  • Later in the frame with less than two minutes left, Collins sent the puck down to Heath who was on Green's stick side of the net, and then he found an open King who slipped past the SUNY Potsdam defense to tap in the tying goal as both sides headed into the final frame tied at two.
  • As the third got underway, both sides went back and forth for the opening 10 minutes but then with 9:32 left to play, Nehmer netted the eventual game-winner. Cohen skated up the ice and dished the puck off to Cohen near the right face-off circle he skated toward Green but then dropped the puck to Nehmer who put a nice move on Green to get the puck past him for the 3-2 advantage.
  • Less than two minutes later (7:53), Rapalje netted an insurance goal after he received a great look from Ireland who found him at the opposite face-off circle on the left side and put in a one-timer for his 12th goal of the season.
  • Despite a late goal in the third from SUNY Potsdam (3:54), Stonehill's defense and Day kept the Bears off the board to hold on for the 4-3 win. For Day, his 34 saves marked a new season-high for the senior which topped his previous best of 33 set back in his last start on November 19 in a 5-2 win at Post University.
