The Details

  • While the first half had no scoring, the Skyhawks outshot the Hawks by a 14-11 margin led by two from both Will Cohen and Rapalje.
  • As the second half got underway, Stonehill finally broke the scoreless draw courtesy of Ireland after Schwenninger shot the puck up ahead to Rapalje as he skated down ice. When he got past the left face-off circle, he dumped the puck behind to Ireland who fired a one-timer past Howard for his 10th goal on the season.
  • The Skyhawks doubled up their lead 1:09 later when Horak intercepted a Saint Anselm pass on the Stonehill side of the ice and found Nehmer ahead of the defense and pushed the puck ahead to him. From there, Nehmer passed the puck up to himself and beat Howard in the upper left corner.
  • Later in the frame, Cady forced a Saint Anselm turnover on the blue line and took the puck himself down ice and made a nice move to beat Howard stickside for the 3-0 Stonehill lead.
  • In the third, the Hawks cut the lead down to two (3-1) off the stick of Reynolds, but that was the closes Saint Anselm would get as FitzPatrick shut down the Hawks the rest of the way to secure Coach Borges' 100th career win.
