The Details

  • A little more than halfway through the first period (8:50), Stonehill generated a powerplay opportunity after an Anna Maria tripping penalty. Nehmer found an open McElaney up ice and he pushed the puck to Cohen who generated his own offense for the opening score.
  • However, with just under two minutes in the first (1:08), Anna Maria evened things at one courtesy of Coulombe.
  • As the second period got underway, neither side found the back of the net thanks to strong defensive play. Despite the strong defense, Stonehill broke the tie 1-1 draw when Schwenninger found the back of the net thanks to great lead passes from McElaney and Ireland. For McElaney, it is his second game this season with at least two assists.
  • FitzPatrick continued to make save after save for the rest of the frame as the sophomore netminder made two stops as the squad went into the final period with a one-goal lead.
  • Less than five minutes into the final frame, Tripp gave the Skyhawks an insurance goal which made it 3-1. However, at the 9:43 mark, the 'CATS pulled within one as Coulombe scored his second goal of the contest.
  • Despite the early goal, Stonehill responded a little over a minute later (8:27), Rapalje put back Cohen's miss and made it 4-2 and the Purple and White added on an empty netter off the stick of Ireland.
  • With his 23 saves, FitzPatrick has now made 20 saves in four of his five starts on the season.
