NE10 QUARTERFINAL: #8 Adelphi’s Opening Minute Tally Enough to Slip Past #10 Field Hockey, 1-0

EASTON, Mass (November 1, 2021) - Sixth-seeded Adelphi University, ranked No. 8 in last week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, struck for the game's lone goal less than a minute into the contest and made it stand over the following 59-minutes to secure a 1-0 victory over third-seeded and No. 10-ranked Stonehill College in quarterfinal round action of the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Tournament on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

The Details

  • Postgrad Kelsey Catalano scored her eighth goal of the season just 44-seconds into the contest when she and junior Giana McKeough broke down the middle of the field and she redirected McKeough's pass from the center into the back of the cage on the left side for the game's initial shot.
  • Sophomore Amanda Montiel and the Adelphi defense did the rest, with Montiel posting three saves in the shutout performance in goal, while the Panthers held Stonehill without a shot in the second half. All three of Montiel's saves came in the second quarter and the defense held the Skyhawks without a shot attempt despite four penalty corners in the final 30-minutes.

Senior Abigail Campbell finished with nine saves in the Stonehill cage, including seven in the second half, in, regardless of the Skyhawks postseason outcome, marks her final game at W.B. Mason Stadium.
  • Adelphi's win sparked a day of upsets in today's NE10 quarterfinals, with just top-seeded and No. 3-ranked Assumption University holding serve, albeit with a 2-1 triumph at home against eighth-seeded Saint Thomas Aquinas College with a second half goal breaking a 1-1 deadlock.
