#8 Field Hockey Rallies for Win at AIC, 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2021) - Sophomore Raegan Hickey scored a pair of second half goals, including the gamewinner with just 1:35 to play in regulation, to lift Stonehill College, ranked No. 8 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, to a 3-2 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Ronald J. Abdow Field this evening.

The Details

  • Hickey's two second half goals, give her a team-leading ten for the season, with her third gamewinner of the year coming off a pass from freshman Maddie House off Stonehill's eighth penalty corner of the game.
  • Stonehill opened the scoring with 1:35 left in the opening quarter when senior Emily Ledoux scored her fourth goal of the season. 
  • American International was able to quickly knot the score before the quarter break when junior Nicole Mercadante scored with just 25-seconds left in the frame, assisted by freshman Pej'Ae Parent's.
  • Sophomore Na'Bree Wallace put AIC in front 3:55 into the second quarter off a corner when Stonehill staved off the Yellow Jackets first two shot attempts, but Wallace was able to sneak her shot in.
  • Stonehill evened the score in the second half utilizing a penalty corner opportunity of its own in the 37th minute. After senior Emma Mawn injected, shots from House and junior Emma Keene-Reinhard were saved before Hickey was able to find the back of the cage for the equalizer. 
  • The win pushes Stonehill to ten NE10 victories for the second-straight season and third time in the last four years.

Stonehill (12-4, 10-3 NE10) is off until next Friday, October 29, when it closes out the regular season at Southern Connecticut State University at 6 p.m. AIC (6-10, 4-8 NE10) visits Bentley University for its regular season finale on Friday at 7 p.m.
