Skyhawk women sweep awards
EASTON, Mass. (October 27, 2015) – Stonehill College junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas Massachusetts/Douglas), have been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete and Rookie of the Year, respectively, announced by the league office on Sunday.
Borofski has had an incredible season so far for the Skyhawks. The Plymouth Massachusetts native finished in first place at Sunday's Northeast-10 Championship, helping #16 Stonehill capture its seventh consecutive conference title, and 14th championship since 2000. Borofski led the way for the Skyhawks, completing the course in 21:48.8, 43 seconds faster than the runner up and the only female competitor to run a sub 6:00 mile. Borofski is the first individual women's NE-10 Champion from Stonehill since Meghan Shannahan in 2002.
Prior to the NE-10 Championships, Borofski took home a first place finish at the DII/ DIII Challenge and earned All-New England honors after clocking in at 17:54.2 on the five-kilometer course at the New England Championships. Borofski paced Stonehill to its highest finish in program history at the event. The junior also posted the fastest time ever for a Skyhawk at Franklin Park, topping the effort of Meghann Shanahan, '05, at the 2002 New England Championships by 21 seconds.

A 2013 graduate of Plymouth North High School, Borofski was a four-year letterwinner in both cross country and track for the Eagles. She earned All-State honors in cross country all four years, and served as a team captain for both cross country and track as a junior and senior.
Makenzie Cyr earns Rookie of the Year recognition from the NE-10, marking the seventh time a Skyhawk has won the award. The freshman opened up the fall season with a bang, recording three top 10 finishes in her first three races. The Douglas Massachusetts native paced the Skyhawks at the Shacklette Invitational, placing third at the event with a time of 19:05. Cyr followed up that performance with an eighth place finish (23:34.6) at the DII/ DIII Challenge and a fourth place finish (18:50.0) at the Ted Owen Invitational.
Cyr helped the Skyhawks to its highest finish ever at the New England Championships, ran by Division I, II and III programs. Cyr completed the course in 18:41.5 good for 55th place, and finished in the top 10 of all freshmen at the event. Cyr solidified her NE-10 Rookie of the Year honors at the NE-10 Championship's on Sunday, earning All-NE-10 first team recognition after finishing the race in fifth place with a time of 22:44.1.
A 2015 graduate of Douglas High School, Cyr competed in cross country and track. She earned Dual Valley Conference All-Star honors for cross country all four years, and for indoor/outdoor track as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Cyr was named DVC Runner of the Year for indoor track as a junior, and DVC Runner of the Year for cross country and outdoor track as a senior.
Stonehill, ranked No. 16 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, is off this weekend before returning to action on Sunday, November 8th, when the Skyhawks will attempt to win their sixth NCAA East Region Championship in the past seven years. The race will be held at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and hosted by Franklin Pierce University.
