Skyhawks looking for sixth title in past seven years

EASTON, Mass. (November 6, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 16th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, will attempt to capture its sixth East Regional Championship in the past seven years and guarantee its 16th straight trip to the NCAA Division II Championships this Sunday at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.

Stonehill won the Northeast-10 Championship two weekends ago in Colchester, VT, in dominating fashion, placing its top five runners in the top eight overall, and finishing ahead of the runners-up by 93 points. Five Stonehill athletes earned All-Conference accolades, junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) was named Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, and freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas Massachusetts/Douglas) was tabbed as the NE-10 Rookie of the Year. Head coach Karen Boen won her 13th Women's Coach of the Year Award as well.

Junior co-captain Borofski, a three-time All-Northeast-10 honoree, is coming off a career-best first-place finish at the NE-10 Championships as she continues to be Stonehill's top performer this season. The Plymouth, Massachusetts native also finished first at the Kutztown Division II Challenge earlier this year, and placed first among DII runners at the New England Championships. At last year's East Region meet, Borofski finished third overall to earn her second selection to the All-East Region team.

Classmate and fellow captain Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) will be aiming for her third top-10 finish this season, as she came in 3rd place at the Ted Owens Invitational on September 26th and second overall at the NE-10 Championship. McAdams received an All-East Region selection last year, earning the honors with a 16th place finish at the East Regional Championships.

Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished a career-best seventh at the NE-10 Championships for her second All-Conference performance, and the Skyhawks have gotten strong rookie performances from freshmen Cyr and Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan), who finished fifth and eighth at the conference meet to earn All-Conference first and second team honors.

Junior Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), who just missed out on All-NE-10 honors two weeks ago with her 23rd place finish, is running in her first East Regional Championships and will look to duplicate her success on Sunday.

Sophomore Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) will be returning from injury to run in the East Regional, where she finished 10th overall as a freshman, earning All-East Region honors.

With a top-3 finish on Sunday, Stonehill would advance to its 16th consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship. The event will take place in Joplin, Missouri, hosted by Missouri Southern State University, the weekend of November 21-23.
