Borofski Leads #16 Women's Cross Country to Fourth Place at New England Championships

Skyhawks post highest finish in program history at New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. (October 10, 2015) – Led by a sixth-place effort from junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), the Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 16 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Poll, turned in an impressive fourth-place finish this afternoon at the New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Borofski, who earned All-New England honors after clocking in at 17:54.2 on the five-kilometer course, paced Stonehill to its highest finish in program history at the event. The junior also posted the fastest time ever for a Skyhawk at Franklin Park, topping the effort of Meghann Shanahan, '05, at the 2002 New England Championships by 21 seconds.

Stonehill posted a score of 253 on its way to fourth place in the 39-team field consisting of Division I, II, and III programs. Boston College finished first with a score of 56, followed by Quinnipiac University (144) and Yale University (162). Stonehill turned in the highest finish among Division II programs, as American International College placed 25th.

Junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) followed Borofski in 38th place with a time of 18:30, while freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas), who posted top-ten finishes in each of her first three collegiate races, finished 55th in 18:41.5.

Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) and freshman Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) were the final two scoring runners for Stonehill this afternoon, placing 70th and 84th, respectively. Buonfiglio turned in a time of 18:50.3, while Hannon followed nine seconds later in 18:59.3.

Junior Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) was the sixth Skyhawk to cross the finish line today, doing so in 19:03.4, good for 90th overall.

Freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) was Stonehill's final entry in the varsity race, as she finished 166th out of 263 total participants with a time of 19:43.7.

Competing in the sub-varsity race, freshmen Anna DeVitto (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) and Adrienne Santoro (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) placed 57th (20.00) and 102nd (20:26), respectively.

Stonehill, which is also the top-ranked team in the USTFCCCA East Region Rankings, will be back in action next Friday, October 16th at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, hosted by Franklin Pierce University at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.
