Cyr Earns Second NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Douglas, Mass. native finished fourth overall in 18:50.0 on Saturday at the Ted Owen Invitational

EASTON, Mass. (September 28, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week for women's cross country, the league office announced today. 

Cyr earns this honor for the second time following her fourth-place finish in 18:50.0 on Saturday at the five-kilometer Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by hosted by Central Connecticut State University at Stanley Park in New Britain, Connecticut. The Douglas, Massachusetts native's effort helped Stonehill to a first place team finish, as the Skyhawks beat out several Division I programs with a score of 35.

Cyr has enjoyed an impressive start to her collegiate career, turning in three consecutive top-10 performances for the Skyhawks. She opened her freshman campaign with a third-place finish out of 120 participants in 19:05 at the five-kilometer Shacklette Invitational on September 5th, and was recognized as the NE-10 women's cross country Athlete and Rookie of the Week for her efforts.

Cyr followed that up by posting a time of 23:34.6, good for eighth place out of 94 entries at the six-kilometer Kutztown University Division II/DIII Challenge on September 19th, as Stonehill raced to the team title.

A 2015 graduate of Douglas High School, Cyr earned Dual Valley Conference (DVC) All-Star honors for cross country all four years, and she was named DVC Runner of the Year as a senior.

Stonehill, ranked No. 16 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Poll, will be off next weekend before returning to action on Saturday, October 10th at the New England Championships, to be held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
