Sophomore Abby Hersom finishes 23rd in 15:49 to lead Skyhawks
HOPKINTON, N.H. (October 16, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked No. 16 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked first in the East Region, posted a fourth-place finish today at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, held at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, site of the 2015 East Regional Championships.
All eight of the Skyhawks running today occupied spots 23-34, while the first four to finish did so within just 1.4 seconds of each other. Sophomore Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) led the way, finishing 23rd on the four-kilometer course with a time of 15:49.4.
Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), who was Stonehill's top finisher a week ago at the New England Championships, turned in a 24th place performance today, clocking in at 15:50.0, while classmate Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) finished 25th and earned a time of 15:50.5.
Freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) came in just three tenths of a second after McAdams, placing 26th in 15:50.8, and classmate Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) posted a time of 16:03.6, good for 31st overall.
Freshman Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) was the sixth Skyhawk to cross the finish line, doing so in 16:04.0 (32nd place), while sophomore Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) and junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) placed 33rd and 34th respectively, turning in times of 16:04.4 and 16:04.8.
Stonehill earned a fourth-place finish with a total of 129 points. Merrimack College won the meet with 66 points, while Saint Anselm College took second place (74 points) and Adelphi held on to third place (87 points). Franklin Pierce University rounded out the top five in fifth with a score of 139 points. Southern New Hampshire's junior Laura O'Hanlon took individual honors with her first place finish in 14:30.1.
Stonehill will be back in action next weekend when they'll look for their seventh consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Championships in Colchester, Vermont, hosted by Saint Michael's College.
