Poveda tallied her seventh-career double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs

GARDEN CITY, New York (November 2, 2018) – The Stonehill College volleyball team fell to Adelphi University (24-5, 11-2 NE10) in four sets, 3-1, on Friday night in Northeast-10 Conference play with set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 13-25, and 26-28. 

For the Skyhawks (10-11, 6-7 NE10), saw Allyson Hughes with a team-high 15 kills, while Sophia Poveda chipped in 10 kills and 10 digs for her seventh-career match with a double-double. Junior Rachel Dunlavy registered 21 digs, as freshman Lauren Wilke notched 37 assists and Meg Pennino totaled three blocks for a team high. 

Adelphi saw the first lead of the match with a 4-3 advantage in the first game, but Stonehill fought hard to get on top with a 13-10 lead, after a 10-6 run. The Panthers bounced back, 14-13, and the Skyhawks tied the set three times, 16-16, before Adelphi ran with a 9-1 run, taking game one 25-17. 

Dunlavy saw her third-straight match with 20 plus digs

Stonehill's .265 hitting percentage was the highest of the match in the second set, as the Skyhawks fought to stay ahead, as the Panthers took on a three-point lead, 8-5 and Stonehill bounced back after tying the game three times, 12-12, to see a one-point advantage, 16-15. As the lead toggled back and forth, Stonehill capitalized on a 19-17 lead, and maintained it until the Panthers tied the set at 22-22 and 23-23, before Stonehill saw back-to-back kills to take game two, 25-23. 

Adelphi saw a .265 hitting percentage in the third game, it's highest of the match, as it held the Skyhawks at the net. The Panthers held the advantage in the set, as the Skyhawks saw two moments with two-point runs, including when Adelphi had an eight point lead, 21-13. The Panthers scored four-straight points to take the third game, 25-13.  

The fourth set was a battle until the end, as Stonehill kicked off the frame with a seven-point run, including four-straight points from Dunlavy's serve, 18-11. Adelphi switched gears and went on an 8-2 run to close the deficit to one, 19-20, and Stonehill continued pressing to stay in the match. The Panthers tied the set four times, 24-24, and the Skyhawks tied it twice, 26-26, before Adelphi sealed the deal with back-to-back points for a 28-26 fourth set win. 

Stonehill wraps up its regular season with a match against Pace University tomorrow, Saturday, November 3 with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
