Remick tallied a season-high 13 kills against East Stroudsburg

Poveda registered her second-career double-double

BROOKVILLE, New York (September 8, 2018) – The Stonehill College volleyball team (4-4) fell to East Stroudsburg University, 3-1, and LIU Post, 3-0, in non-conference play on Saturday at the Pratt Center.

Match 1: East Stroudsburg University 3 – Stonehill 1

For the Skyhawks, freshman Abby Remick totaled 13 kills for a match high, while Sophia Poveda and Allyson Hughes chipped in 11 apiece. Remick also registered her first-career double-double adding 24 digs, while Poveda recorded her first double-double adding in 11 digs. Rachel Dunlavy notched 15 digs and Lauren Wilke totaled 40 assists. East Stroudsburg (10-1) won the match with set scores of 22-25, 25-21, 28-26, and 25-17.

The Warriors scored the first two points of the match, 2-0, but the Skyhawks saw a seven-point lead, 13-6, its largest of the frame after a 13-4 run. East Stroudsburg tied the first set at twice, 16-16 and 17-16, and then took its first lead, 20-17, with a 10-1 run. The Skyhawks regained the lead, but the Warriors were able to tie the set three more times before Stonehill won the first set 25-22.

In the second set, East Stroudsburg was only able to see its largest lead of six, 9-3, early in the frame, before Stonehill came within one, 12-13, and then tied the set three times, 15-15. The Skyhawks were able to close the gap to one again, 21-22, but the Warriors scored three-straight points for a 25-21 win.

East Stroudsburg saw its highest hitting percentage of the game in the third set, .222, as they were able to defer Stonehill at the net. With 11 tied scores and five Warrior blocks, including back-to-back blocks by Tina Predojevic and Trea-sure Ketter to secure the 28-26 third set.

The Warriors opened the fourth frame with an eight-point advantage, 13-5, and East Stroudsburg ran with the lead through the rest of the frame. Stonehill came within six, 22-16, with five-straight points, but East Stroudsburg took match point, 25-17, with a service ace to complete the game.

Match 2: LIU Post 3 – Stonehill 0

Hughes led the way in the second match, registering seven kills, while Dunlavy and Wilke chipped in nine digs. LIU Post (7-4) won the match with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-14.

LIU Post opened the first set with a 9-2 run and continued with the lead, keeping the ball out of the Skyhawks' hands, as they were only able to see a maximum of three-straight points, 11-16, before the Pioneers took the first frame, 25-16.

Hughes combined for 18 kills in the two matches

The Pioneers saw its highest hitting percentage, .324, in the second frame and the only lead, until the Skyhawks tied the frame at 15. LIU Post regained momentum and closed the second set, 25-20.

LIU Post once again took the lead of the set and remained in control, as Stonehill only came within one, 7-8, before the Pioneers rolled to a 25-14 match point.

Stonehill will travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on American International College on Tuesday September 11 to open Northeast-10 Conference play with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
