Skyhawks win first match against the Falcons in four years

WALTHAM, Massachusetts (September 28, 2018) – The Stonehill College volleyball team eased past Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University with set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 Friday night at the Dana Center.
For the Skyhawks (7-5, 3-1 NE10), senior Allyson Hughes led the Stonehill with a match-high 10 kills, while freshman Abby Remick followed with nine kills. Freshman Clare Feeman registered a season-high three block solos, as freshman setter Lauren Wilke tallied 32 assists, eight digs, and two aces and junior Rachel Dunlavy recorded a match-high 13 digs.
The Skyhawks held the lead throughout the first set, but the Falcons fought hard and came within one, six times, the last time 17-16. Stonehill was able to hold fend off Bentley to take the first set, 25-20, after an 8-4 run.
Stonehill averaged a .269 hitting percentage in the second set, while Bentley saw a .115 hitting clip as the Skyhawks secured the frame with a 25-15 score. Stonehill opened the second set with an 8-3 run, but Bentley pressured the Skyhawks as they saw their first lead of the match, 11-10. After six-straight points from Wilke, 16-11, Stonehill kept its biggest advantage of the set until game-point, 25-18.
The Falcons kicked off the third set with the first two points, 2-0, and tied the third frame seven times, 21-21, before the Skyhawks ran with four-straight points for match point, 25-21.
Stonehill follows up the victory with a home contest against another Conference foe Saint Michael's College tomorrow Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. for its Purple & White Match.
