Volleyball Wins Fourth-Straight with 3-0 Victory Over Saint Michael’s

EASTON, Massachusetts (September 29, 2018) – The Stonehill College volleyball took three-straight sets, 3-0, for their fourth-straight win of the season against Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Michael's College Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium with set scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-16.

For the Skyhawks (8-5, 4-1 NE10), freshman Abby Remick tallied her third double-double of the season registering a match-high 11 kills and 13 digs. Seniors Allyson Hughes and Ruby Moreland each chipped in three blocks, while Hughes also contributed three aces. Junior libero Rachel Dunlavy tallied a match-high 19 digs, while sophomore Sophia Poveda notched 10 kills, the only other student-athlete to reach double-digit kills.

Stonehill held its highest hitting percentage of the afternoon in the opening frame averaging .324 compared to Saint Michael's -.029 hitting clip. The Purple Knights only saw one lead in the first game, 3-1, as the Skyhawks were able to drive home a 25-15 win. The first set included a 15-3 run that put Stonehill up by 12, but Saint Michael's tried to fight back with a 6-3 run, closing the gap to nine, before the Skyhawks took game point, 25-15.


Dunlavy registers a match-high 19 digs in the victory

Once again, the Purple Knights saw a lead in the second set, 3-2, but the Skyhawks' continued to work hard to put the game in their hands as they responded and saw themselves with a 14-point lead, 21-7. The final points went back and forth as Stonehill was able to take the second set with the final two points, 25-11.

The Skyhawks opened the third frame with a quick 5-0 lead and ran with the offensive pressure, expanding the advantage to 10, 15-5, with a 10-5 run. The Purple Knights came within seven, 9-16, but the Skyhawks wrapped up the match with a 9-7 run, as Saint Michael's fought back late closing the gap to eight, 16-24, and Stonehill took match point, 25-16.

Stonehill hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, October 2 for a 7:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference battle at Merkert Gymnasium, before traveling to Manchester, New Hampshire to face Saint Anselm College on Saturday, October 6 at noon.
