Women’s Volleyball Falls to Post, 3-0

Hitchcock tallies match-high 11 kills

EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fell to Post University, 3-0 by set scores of 25-14, 25-22, and 25-22 in Tuesday night's match at the Merkert Gymnasium.  

Stonehill (4-4) junior Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Ill./Benet Academy) recorded a match-high 11 kills, while classmate Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) tallied 10 kills.

Post (6-2) Morgan Griffen registered 11 kills and 11 digs for the only double-double of the match, as the team totaled 12 blocks on the night.

Post's .367 hitting percentage outlasted Stonehill's .054 clip in the first set, putting the Eagles up 1-0 with 25-14 set win.

In the second frame, the Skyhawks saw its first lead of the match with four-straight points, 11-8. Stonehill extended its lead to four, 15-11, as Hitchcock registered her seventh kill. Post knotted the set six times, 20-20, until the Eagles closed the frame with a 5-2 run, 25-22.

Stonehill came out running with a 10-4 advantage in the third set, and would keep the lead until the final two points of the match, that the Eagles capitalized on.

Stonehill finishes its five-match homestand with a contest against New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m. in the Merkert Gymnasium.
