EASTON, Mass. (October 25, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team jumped out early, 2-0, and came back from behind to earn a 3-1 victory over Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption College to begin its three-match homestead. The win came with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16.

Stonehill's (9-11, 4-5 NE-10) offense was led a powerful effort from four Skyhawks reaching double-digit kills. Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) and Ashley Hitchcock (Warrenville, Ill./Benet Adademy) each tallied a double-double, as DeLanty chipped in 11 kills and 10 digs while Hitchcock added in 10 kills and 16 digs. Stonehill got out to a strong 16-10 lead in the first set, but Assumption closed the gap to three, 16-13, before the Skyhawks closed the frame with a 9-4 run, 25-17.

Three tied scores and four lead changes were the difference in the second set, as Stonehill's biggest difference of four, 17-13, helped the Skyhawks pick up their second set, 25-23.

The Skyhawks jumped out front in the third set, 9-2, and continued leading the frame until the Greyhounds would knot the set at 22. Stonehill bounced back with one point from a kill by Hughes, but Assumption stole the set with a 25-23 win.

Six of DeLanty's kills drove Stonehill's .412 hitting percentage, which outlasted Assumption's .147 clip in the fourth set, helping the Skyhawks close the match with a 25-16 set win.

Stonehill continues its three-match homestead with its second against Le Moyne College on Friday, October 28 for its Dig Pink Weekend starting at 7 p.m.
