Women’s Volleyball Swept by Adelphi, 3-0

Harte tallies 17 assists in the match

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 22, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team was tripped up by Adelphi University by set scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18 in Saturday's match at the Center for Recreation and Sport.  

Stonehill (8-11, 3-5 NE-10) junior Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) recorded a team-high six kills, while Abby Harte (Dover, N.H./Dover) tallied 17 assists and Claire Manuszak (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) registered 17 digs.

Adelphi's (14-8, 5-3 NE-10) Mandy Stanislovaitis registered a match-high 13 kills. Megan Manierski tallied 28 assists in the victory, as Sierra Cook and Melissa Rigo notched 14 and 12 digs, respectively.

Adelphi's .324 hitting percentage outlasted Stonehill in the first set, putting the Panthers up 1-0 with 25-17 set win.

The Skyhawks got out to a 4-3 advantage in the second set, but the Panthers responded with a 9-1 run giving them the lead, 12-5. Stonehill fought back but was only able to close the gap to three, 17-20. Adelphi concluded the frame with a 5-2 run, taking the second set, 25-19.

Adelphi ran with a 12-5 run in the opening of the third set and remained on top, as Stonehill was only able to come within three, 14-17, before the Panthers took match-point with a 8-4 run, 25-18.

Stonehill begins a three-match homestead beginning with Assumption College on Tuesday, October 25 for a 7 p.m. nightcap. The contest will serve as a Professor Appreciation Match.
