Women’s Volleyball Defeats Saint Anselm, 3-2

Three Skyhawks tally double-digit kills

MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 8, 2016) – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fought back in the fifth set after Saint Anselm College tied the match with two sets apiece with a 3-2 victory. The Skyhawks won their final regular season away match with set scores of 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 14-25, 15-10 Tuesday night in Stoutenburgh Gym.  

Stonehill (12-12, 7-6 NE-10) saw three players with double-digit kills including Katherine DeLanty (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) with 15, Allyson Hughes (Modesto, Calif./Big Valley Christian) with 13, and Marykay Nasby (Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine) with 10. Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) registered her 12th double-double of the season with 42 assists and 11 digs.

Saint Anselm (19-6, 9-3 NE-10) saw Catherine McCarthy notch 14 kills, as CC Chrisom recorded 27 digs and Jewel Hays registered 41 assists.

Saint Anselm opened up the first set with a six-point lead, 16-10, holding off Stonehill until with Rachel Dunlavy (Brighton, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) serving, the Skyhawks recorded seven-straight points, taking a one-point lead, 17-16. Stonehill continued with an 8-4 run as it took the set point, 25-20.  

Stonehill's .346 hitting percentage was the highest of the night, which outlasted Saint Anselm's .000 clip in the second set, putting the Skyhawks up 2-0 with 25-16 set win.

An early 12-4 lead in the third frame, let the Hawks regain its momentum as it saw a .166 hitting clip. Stonehill was able to tie the set three times after Saint Anselm's lead, 21-21, as the Hawks closed the frame with a 4-2 run tallying its first of the game, 25-23.

Saint Anselm took off running once again in the fourth set with a 20-11 run, as Stonehill only averaged a .062 hitting clip. The Hawks' recorded its best hitting percentage of the night, .333, taking set point and knotting the match at two, 25-14.

Stonehill regained its stamina in the final set, as it controlled the frame holding a solid four-point lead throughout. The Skyhawks would capitalize on an error by the Hawks for the final point of the match, extending its lead to five, 15-10.

Stonehill concludes its regular season play with a Northeast-10 conference battle against University of New Haven on Friday, November 11 at 7 p.m. Prior to the match in Merkert Gymnasium, seniors Abby Harte and Stevens will be recognized for Senior Night.
