Stonehill College is saddened to hear the news of Robert West's passing last week. West served as head volleyball coach at Stonehill from 1987-90 and later assistant women's basketball coach under Stonehill Hall of Famer Kelly Hart from 1999-2001.

West, a longtime coach in the Town of Westwood, passed away surrounded by family on January 25 and was laid to rest today following services at St. Timothy's Church in Norwood, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila, and daughters, Maureen Shepperson and Denise Cullen, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many other family members.

West, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War era, led the Stonehill volleyball program to a 68-49 (.581) record over his four seasons as head coach, with the team reaching the NE10 semifinals in 1989 and 1990, the latter season of which the team posted a 20-13 record. Two of his former student-athletes, Ginny and Terry Duggan '91, have been inducted into the College's Athletics Hall of Fame. West returned to Stonehill in 1999 as former head coach Kelly Hart's assistant coach over her last two seasons, helping the team to a pair of NE10 Tournament appearances.

In lieu of flowers, donations Stonehill may be made in Robert's memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
