Women's 4x400 and 60M Hurdles Win Silver at NEC Championships

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 20, 2023) - The Women's Track and Field team competed in the second and final day of the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship today and had multiple athletes compete in the last time trials and field events.

The Skyhawks are one of the first Stonehill teams to compete in the NEC Championship meet. After day one, Stonehill is in sixth place with a total of 12 points after day one. After the last day, the Skyhawks Women's team placed seventh overall with a total of 50.5 points. The Skyhawks trailed behind Central Connecticut State University in first with 149, Wagner in second with 92 points, and Long Island University in third with 90 points.

Rousseau finished in second place with a time of 9.00 flat!

Highlights

Sophomore Madison Rousseau qualified for the preliminary round of the 60m hurdles yesterday with a time of 9.02 and then raced in the final 60m hurdles event today, placing second overall with a time of 9.00 flat, a new personal record. 

The women's distance medley relay won second place with a time of 12:25.09, consisting of senior Emma Lawrence, junior Kaytlin Encarnacao, senior Elizabeth Marshall, and freshman Emily Young.

Freshman Grace Tyrrell ran in the 500m race yesterday, qualifying in the preliminary trials with a time of 1:20.77. She then raced in the final time trials of the 500m race, placing seventh with a time of 1:20.37, a new personal record.

Sophomore Emma Lawrence ran in the 800m preliminary run yesterday, where she qualified with a time of 2:20.67. She then ran in the final time trials, placing seventh with a time of 2:20.62, a new personal record.

Senior Rebecca Erhard competed in the 5000m race this afternoon, placing sixth with a time of 18:06.13, a new personal record for the senior.

Yesterday, three Skyhawks ran and finished in the top ten of the 3000m run:

Senior Victoria Lombardi ran hard in the championships meet, finishing in fourth place in the 3000m yesterday with a time of 10:15.34, a new personal record for the senior distance runner. She then ran in the 5000m this afternoon, placing fourth with a time of 17:51.31.

Freshman Jordan Malloy, who had recently won NEC Rookie of the Week, ran in the 3000m race as well, finishing fifth place overall with a time of 10:19.44, a new personal record for the freshman. She then raced in the finals of the one-mile run today, placing sixth with a time of 5:13.09.

Freshman distance runner Emily Young also ran in the 3000m race, where she placed sixth overall in the final race, with a time of 10:22.50, also snagging a new personal record.

The women's 4x400 meter relay competed today and placed sixth overall with a time of 4:03.82, consisting of freshman Grace Tyrrell, freshman Aneka Andrews, sophomore Madison Rousseau, and senior Jenna French.

The women's distance medley relay won second place with a time of 12:25.09, consisting of senior Emma Lawrence, junior Kaytlin Encarnacao, senior Elizabeth Marshall, and freshman Emily Young.

In the women's shot put event, Stonehill had two Skyhawks competing: 

Freshman Darla Jagrosse placed seventh overall in the shot put event, hitting a distance of 11.45m.

Senior Kaley Enright also through in the women's shot put event today, placing eighth overall with a distance of 11.26m.

Sophomore Madison Gunderway competed in the field event category, throwing the weight throw. She threw a distance of 13.37m, placing tenth overall.

Senior Haley Lightbody competed in the pole vault event this afternoon, tying for seventh place with a height of 3.21m.

Up Next

Stonehill concludes their indoor portion of the schedule and will have a brief break from the track before the outdoor season starts in April. The Skyhawk's first outdoor meet comes on Saturday, April 1 at UMass Lowell.
