NEWPORT, R.I. (February 11, 2023) – The University of Rhode Island captured a 7-0 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference women's tennis match held at the Von Auersperg Building at the International Tennis Hall of Fame this evening.

Highlights

  • Junior Valentina Cvackova and freshman Sophie Herrman led four double-winners on the day for URI. The duo opened with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles for the Rams.
  • Cvackova followed that up with a straight sets win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill senior Cristina Solorzano Valencia.
  • Herrman won the first set of her match at No. 2 singles against Stonehill senior Steffi Antao by just a break, before taking the second without dropping a game.
  • Sophomore Marissa Such and freshman Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez earned a win for the Skyhawks with a 6-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (4-3, 0-0 NEC) is back on the courts next Sunday, February 19, when it visits Wagner College for its first Northeast Conference match at 6 p.m. Rhode Island (3-2, 0-0 A10) faces Providence College on Friday at 1 p.m.
