Thompson Named NEWISA Senior Bowl Selection

Lincoln, Rhode Island, senior forward among 12 New England seniors selected from Division II

2021 NEWISA Division II Senior Bowl Selections Made

EASTON, Mass. (November 24, 2021) – Stonehill College senior forward Camryn Thompson has been selected to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, the organization announced.

The NEWISA Senior Bowl brings together student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III colleges in New England for one final match following the conclusion of their last collegiate season. For the 2021 season, the NEWISA Senior Bowl selections are honored, however, NEWISA is unable to host a match this fall due to COVID-19 restrictions and concerns. The 2021 NCAA Division II NEWISA Senior Bowl selections feature 12 student-athletes from colleges and universities across New England.

Thompson earns the recognition as has been highlighted as a leading vote-getter for her position, along with Southern Connecticut State University senior Kaitlyn D'Amico. Thompson, a three-time All-Northeast-10 Conference selection with first team honors this fall, currently ranks second among NE10 leaders with her 11 goals scored and 23 points, having also contributed an assist, with a team-leading two gamewinning goals while starting all 18 matches. She scored multiple goals in three matches this fall, including her first career hat trick in Stonehill's 5-0 win over the University of Maine-Fort Kent on October 16. She earned NE10 Player of the Week accolades for the first time in her career on October 18.

Thompson, a two-time NEWISA All-New England first team selection and Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholar, was named the NE10 Rookie of the Year and an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman. She received the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the team as well as the Fred C. Petti Award for having the highest grade point average among all Stonehill student-athletes for the 2020-21 academic year. Thompson has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors two-straight years, and been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester.

Thompson capped her career having started 50 of the 58 matches she played, totaling 28 goals and nine assists for 65 points. She netted seven matchwinning goals and tallied multiple goals in four matches in her career. Thompson ranks seventh in program history for career goals and tied for eighth all-time in points, while her 11 goals this fall are tied for tenth on Stonehill's single-season list. Her nine goals scored as a freshman were just two shy of the program record for first year student-athletes, while her career-best six assists that season are tied for third all-time, finished tied for the program record for freshman scoring with 24 points in 2018.

Stonehill finished its 2021 season with an 8-8-2 record overall, including 5-6-2 in the NE10, to finish ninth in the NE10 regular season standings. The Skyhawks won five of their last eight (5-2-1) and four of six (4-1-1), including a 3-2 victory over a regionally ranked Saint Anselm squad on October 30. Ten of Stonehill's 18 matches were decided by a single goal, with the Skyhawks going 5-5 in those contests.
