Kessler notches three points for Greyhounds in the victory
EASTON, Mass. (October 6, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.
Senior back Molly Kessler (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) factored into both goals for the Greyhounds while junior goalkeeper Allison Bruder (Sandy, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) posted six saves to earn her first shutout of the season.
Assumption senior midfielder Erin Kinback (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) opened up the scoring at the 63:53 mark as she headed home Kessler's corner kick into the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 advantage and her first goal of the season.
Kessler made it 2-0 with her third marker of the season in the 67th minute flicking home a cross from senior back Kristin Bateas (For Mill, S.C./William Hall) from about 35-yards out on the right flank.
Junior captain and goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) made three saves for the Skyhawks, all in the first half.
The Greyhounds held a slim, 11-10, shot advantage and won the corners matchup, 6-1.
Stonehill (4-3-3, 3-3-2 NE-10) hosts Merrimack College in an NE-10 clash on Tuesday, October 9 on Skyhawk Field at 3:30 p.m. Assumtpion (3-5-3, 3-3-3 NE-10) welcomes The College of Saint Rose, the defending NCAA Division II champions, on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
