Wheaton Collects Daktronics Honorable Mention All-America Status

Dartmouth, Mass., native adds award to impressive resume from junior season

EASTON, Mass. (December 11, 2012) – Stonehill College junior goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) has added Daktronics Honorable Mention All-America honors to her impressive resume of awards from a breakout season for the Skyhawks this fall.

Wheaton, the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and a consensus All-East Region selection is one of five goalkeepers honored between the Daktronics All-America first, second and third teams as well as honorable mention recognition. She has also received Daktronics All-East Region first team and second team All-Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) after being named to the All-Northeast-10 first team.

Wheaton's honors are well deserved after serving as the backbone to the Stonehill defensive unit this fall. She posted eight shutouts in 17 starts this, with a 0.65 goals against average, 96 saves and an .889 save percentage. Wheaton led the NE-10 this season for save percentage (8th nationally), while ranking second for shutouts, third for goals against average (27th), fourth for minutes played (11th) and seventh for total saves (43rd).

The junior goalkeeper has compiled 15 career shutouts which ties her for fourth all-time on the career shutouts list at Stonehill. Wheaton also ranks third and fourth, respectively, on the single-season goals against average list with a 0.65 GAA mark in 2012 and a 0.72 GAA in 2011.

Stonehill posted a 6-5-6 overall record during the 2012 season, missing out on a spot in the NE-10 tournament by just a single point with its 5-5-5 Conference mark putting the Skyhawks in ninth place. Three of the Skyhawks five losses were by just one goal and the team played nine overtime matches, posting four scoreless double-overtime draws.
