Skyhawks victorious in their fifth-straight season opener

EASTON, Mass. (September 1, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team opened up its 2012 season with a 4-0 triumph over Concordia (N.Y.) College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Sophomore forward Renee Trudeau (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) scored one goal and dished out one assist to lead the offense. Jordan Bell (Pemberton, N.J./Holy Cross), Christine Moodie (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) and senior captain Allison Nagle (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) also tallied their first markers of the season in the win.

Bell opened up the scoring at the 8:21 mark by corralling a loose ball in the box and firing a shot past Clippers goalkeeper Johana Vargas (Queens, N.Y./High School for Arts and Business) for a 1-0 lead, early on.

Moments later at 10:31, Moodie registered her first career collegiate goal heading home a beautiful cross from Trudeau inside the box for a 2-0 advantage.

Trudeau made it 3-0 at 61:03 with an evasive run down the left flank while maneuvering through three defenders before finishing on a one-on-one chance with Concordia's keeper.

Nagle, a four-year starter on the backline for the Skyhawks, tallied her first career collegiate marker at 70:22 with a shot from about 30-yards out that arched over Vargas and into the lower left corner of the net for a 4-0 gap.

Junior captain and goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) made one save – in the second half – to earn the victory. Vargas stopped 12 shots in net for Concordia.

The Skyhawks outshot the Clippers, 34-1, and won the corners matchup, 11-1.

Stonehill (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10) plays host to Pace University in its first Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) matchup of the season on Saturday, September 8 on Skyhawk Field at noon. The Clippers (0-0-1, 0-0-0 ECC) travels to Felician College on Thursday, September 6 at 4 p.m.
