Dapron Leads Women's Golf in Tough First Round at NEC Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 23, 2023) – Senior co-captain Julia Dapron leads the way for Stonehill College after a challenging opening round at the 2023 Northeast Conference Championships on the 6,117-yard, par 72 layout of the Hills Course at LPGA International today.

Dapron carded two birdies on the back nine of her round of 85 today, shooting a three-over-par 39 on the back. She birdied the 149-yard par 3 12th hole as well as the 350-yard, par 4 17th, finishing the day with five pars along with the two birdies. She sits tied for 31st out of 55 golfers at the 11-team event after the first round, while her two birdies are tied for fourth in the field.

Stonehill is tenth in the team standings with an opening round team score of 367. Defending champions Sacred Heart University leads the team standings with a 303 score today, leading the way by seven strokes over second place Merrimack College (310) with the top five teams separated by just 11 shots after the first day. Sacred Heart is led by Chantal El Chaib and Kailee Welch, who each shot even par 72 today to lead the individual leaderboard by two strokes over Kyra Cox (74) of Howard University.

  • Senior co-captain Emily Kase followed Dapron by shooting a 90 today, carding a birdie on the 118-yard, par 3 third hole on her way to a team-best six over par 42 on the front nine, and is tied for 43rd overall.
  • Freshman Jaelyn DeBoise also birdied the third hole and finished with a 95, which included a team-best eight pars. She is ranked 14th in the field for par 3 scoring at 3.50, playing the four par threes at two over par.
  • Sophomore Mollie Thomas finished with a score of 97, posting a birdie on the 516-yard, par 5 14th hole, while junior Hannah Pignato followed with a 99.
