Dapron Leads Women's Golf on Day 1 of SHU Spring Invite

Dorset, Vermont, senior in top 20 after opening round 82

MILFORD, Conn. (April 16, 2023) – Senior Julia Dapron shot an opening round 82 to lead Stonehill College in the opening round of the SHU Spring Invitational, hosted by Sacred Heart University, on the 5,951-yard, par 72 layout at Great River Golf Club today.

Dapron is tied for 19th out of the 41 golfers competing at the event after her opening round 82. She carded a birdie on the par-5 13th hole and then registered pars on the final four holes and on eight holes overall for the day. She led a Stonehill team that sits in fifth place in the team standings after a 349 team score.

Host Sacred Heart shares the top spot in the team standings with Boston University as the two schools each posted nine-over-par team scores of 297 to lead the field by 20 strokes. Annika Manjunath of Boston University heads the individual leaderboard after an opening round one-under-par 71 that leads Chantal El Chaib of Sacred Heart (72) by a stroke.

  • Junior Hannah Pignato is tied for 24th overall after a first round 86. She notched a pair of birdies today on the par-3 eighth hole as well as the 13th.
  • Freshman Jaelyn DeBoise followed with a round of 89 and is tied for 29th after a day that also featured two birdies on the par-5 sixth and par-4 11th.
  • Senior Emily Kase and sophomore Mollie Thomas are tied in 30th place after identical rounds of 92 today.
  • Freshmen Cheyenne Couture, Caitlin Anderson and Cecile Elie are all entered as individuals in the invitational. Couture led the trio with a first round 98 (T35th), followed by Anderson (106) and Elie (111).
