DeBoise Leads Women's Golf at Sacred Heart Fall Invite

Springfield, Massachusetts, freshman caps impressive fall with 30th place finish

MILFORD, Conn. (October 17, 2022) – Freshman Jaelyn DeBoise led the way for the Stonehill College women's golf team as it wrapped up its fall schedule with second round play at the Sacred Heart Fall Invitational, hosted by Sacred Heart University, on the 5,971-yard, par-72 layout at Great River Golf Club today.

DeBoise, who along with senior Julia Dapron, needed to complete their first round this morning after darkness suspended play on Sunday, started her day with a birdie on her lone remaining hole from the first round to complete an opening round 82 and then followed that up by carding an 81 today for a two-day score of 163 to finish tied for 30th overall out of 72 golfers in the field. She played the front nine at four over par (40), before shooting 41 on the back, with her lone birdie of the tournament coming on the 327-yard par four 11th hole. DeBoise logged 12 pars in the second round, with just the one birdie coming in the first round, as she posted a one over par 37 on the back nine.

Host Sacred Heart capped off the team title with a two-day score of 594, with two sub-300 rounds to post the lone team score under 600. The Pioneers finished 13-strokes in front of second place Boston University (299-308=607). Stonehill finished tenth in the tournament, trimming five shots off its first round score of 344 with a 339 team score today for a 683 total. Sacred Heart's Chantal El Chaib fired a one-under-par 71 today to earn medalist honors with a two-day score of 145 (74-71) – two shots lower than Alice Fan from BU (74-73=147).

  • Dapron finished 44th overall with a two-day score of 168 (85-82). She led Stonehill with three birdies over the two rounds, including one today on the 327-yard, par 4 11th. Dapron added one on the par five third hole and 361-yard par 4, nineth in the opening round.
  • Sophomore Mollie Thomas finished tied for 58th overall after shaving two strokes off her opening round score with an 87 today and two-day score of 176. She recorded a birdie on the par 5 17th.
  • Senior Emily Kase finished T60th at 178 (90-88), also trimming two strokes off her Sunday round. She posted a three-over-par 39 on the back nine today, adding a birdie on the 321-yard, par 4 16th on Sunday.
  • Junior Hannah Pignato placed 67th at 189 (88-101).
  • Freshman Caitlin Anderson rebounded with a nine-stroke improvement today to finish 67th overall at 189 (101-92). Classmate Cheyenne Couture finished tied for 71st at 208 (106-102).
