WBCA announces 20th 'So You Want To Be A Coach' class

EASTON, Mass. (January 25, 2023) – Stonehill College fifth-year guard Emily Bramanti has been named as a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 20th "So You Want To Be A Coach" class the organization has announced.

Bramanti is the first student-athlete in program history selected to participate in the program and the lone Northeast Conference representative among the 62 selections across all levels of women's college basketball. The "So You Want To Be A Coach" program, in partnership with WeCOACH, will be held over two days during the 2023 WBCA Convention in Dallas, Texas, March 30-31.

"I am very honored to be selected for the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program," said Bramanti. "I am looking forward to attending all of the different speakers and events that this program entails. I am excited to learn from the great coaches all around the country that will be there and have the ability to learn the ins and outs of coaching at a high level."

In its 20th year, the "So" program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.

Participants will learn about the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules, and how to balance work and life. Qualified candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year and must be nominated by their WBCA-member head coach. Each participant is selected based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from their head coach.

"I am so excited for Emily to be able to participate in this phenomenal WBCA program," said Stonehill head coach Trisha Brown. "The sessions in the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program will give her a great understanding of how to approach a career in coaching and what our profession entails."
