King Sets School Record at Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. (February 3, 2024) – Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) broke his own Stonehill record in the 200m race Saturday afternoon as the Stonehill College men's track and field team competed at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational at the BU Track & Tennis Center.

Exactly one year ago, on Feb 3, 2023, King set the Stonehill indoor 200m record at New England Championships with a time of 21.43 seconds. Today he broke his own record when he placed fourth out of 104 runners with a time of 21.24 seconds, blowing past the top mark in the Northeast Conference of 21.58 seconds that he set at UMass on Jan. 14.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Junior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) had another strong performance in the pole vault after tying the school record a week ago, placing seventh with a 4.55m mark out of 28 competitors.
  • Senior Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished in ninth in the pole vault, hitting his best mark of the season at 4.40m to move into sixth in the NEC in the event. This puts him in a tie for fourth-place on the Stonehill all-time pole vault list.
  • Freshman Drew Pierson (Ellsworth, Maine) set a new career-best as well as the top mark by a freshman in the NEC with a high jump of 1.91m to place 14th today while ranking fifth in the conference now.
  • Like Pierson, freshman Christopher Gill claimed the best toss of all the NEC freshmen this season, reaching 14.06m to place 16th in the shot put. His throw tops all other Skyhawk tosses this season and is the sixth-best in the NEC. Gill's toss also marks a freshmen record for Stonehill indoor track and field.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Competing in the 200m with King was junior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) who set a personal best, placing 29th with a time of 21.88 seconds, tying the fifth-best time in the NEC. Drugan ranks fourth all-time in the indoor 200m in Stonehill track and field history.
  • In the 400m, freshman Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.) finished the race in 49.7 seconds in his debut, placing 23rd and now ranking ninth in the NEC. His time of 49.7 seconds is a freshman record in men's indoor track and field at Stonehill.
  • Freshman Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass) set a personal best in the mile race, finishing in 4:16.55, the 10th-best time in the conference this season.
  • Fifth-year Reilly Johnston (Providence, R.I.) set a personal best in the 3000m race, finishing with the top time of the winter for the Skyhawks for the second week in a row, 8:29.86, now ranking fifth in the NEC.
  • Also running in the 3000m race was freshman Nicholas Davies (Auckland, New Zealand) who broke the school record for any freshman in the indoor 3000m. He finished close behind Johnston with a time of 8:34.63 to move into ninth place in the NEC.
  • A trio of Skyhawks finished back-to-back-to-back in the 5000m race as fifth-year Colin Black (Hopedale, Mass), senior Patrick Garratt (Westwood, Mass.), and freshman Brayton Gazerro (Coventry, R.I.) each finished within one second of each other. Black (14:46.47) now ranks second in the NEC in the 5000m while Garratt (14:47.3) and Gazerro (14:47.43) rank third and fourth.
  • Black now holds the fourth-fastest 5000m run in Stonehill indoor track and field history, Garratt ranks just behind him with the fifth-fastest all-time.
  • Gazerro's time of 14:47.43 also set a new Stonehill track and field record as he now holds the fastest indoor 5000m time by any Skyhawk freshmen.
