Gazerro Races to Second Place Finish in 5000m Final at Day One of New England Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. (March 1, 2024) – Freshman Brayton Gazerro (Coventry, R.I.) placed second in the 5000m final, scoring eight points as the Stonehill men's track and field team competed on day one of the NEICAAA (New England) Indoor Track and Field Championships at the TRACK at New Balance.

The top eight finishers of each final are named to the All-New England team for their respective events as the Skyhawks saw two distance runners earn the distinction on Friday.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Gazerro finished less than one second off his freshman school record in the indoor 5000m run, placing second overall to earn the Skyhawks eight points with his time of 14:48.33. He earned All-New England honors for his performance Friday afternoon.
  • Freshman Dylan Brilliant (Plymouth, Mass.) also finished strong in his New England Championship debut in the 5000m race, placing seventh with a time of 15:15.59 to tally two more points for the Skyhawks. Brilliant's top-eight performances earns him All-New England honors, joining fellow freshman Gazerro.
  • Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) qualified for the 200m dash finals after placing first in the event with a time of 21.18 seconds in the preliminary race.
  • Junior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) also ran in the 200m dash prelims, finishing in 22.22 seconds to narrowly miss a qualifying time by a tenth of a second, placing 11th overall.
  • Freshman Matthew Malora (Harrington Park, N.J.) notched a new personal record in the 800m preliminary race for the second weekend in a row, crossing the finish line in 1:56.65 to place 10th overall.
  • Sophomore Thomas Forde (Mystic, Conn.) also set a new PR in the 800m race, finishing in 1:57.4 to place 13th overall.
