Multiple Skyhawks Set Career-Best Marks as Men’s Track and Field Competes at Riverhawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. (January 27, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's track and field saw newcomer Brendan Wilder (Waltham, Mass.) come one second from the Skyhawk freshman record in the 3000m at the Riverhawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell at the TRACK at New Balance Saturday afternoon.

Wilder placed 18th in the 3000m with a time of 8:38.92, finishing one second off of the freshman record for Stonehill that was set in 2000 by Mario Fraioli '04, a member of the Stonehill Athletics Hall of Fame, inducted in 2010.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Junior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) set a personal best mark in the pole vault, reaching a mark of 4.65m to finish sixth out of 34 people while tying the second-best mark in the conference.
  • Senior Chris Cox (Warwick, R.I.) placed 15th in the weight throw with a throw of 14.71m, his second-best toss of the winter behind a 14.95m throw at UMass.
  • Junior Parker Hagen (Newport, R.I.) came in 16th place in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 13.16m.
  • Freshman Christopher Gill notched the seventh-best mark in the Northeast Conference with a throw of 13.93m in shot put, placing 12th in the meet.

TRACK EVENTS

  • Freshman Brody McGrail topped the three Stonehill runners that competed in the 60m dash, finishing in 7.19 seconds to place 12th out of 88 competitors.
  • Fifth-year Colin Black (Hopedale, Mass.) ran the fastest mile of the indoor season for Stonehill and finished the race in 4:20.73 to place 28th.
  • Freshman Brayton Gazerro (Coventry, R.I.) ran in his first indoor mile, finishing less than two seconds behind Black, placing 30th with a time of 4:22.08.
  • Senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) came in third place in the 400m out of 91 runners, setting a new personal best as well as the fourth-best time in the Northeast Conference this season, finishing in 48.18 seconds.
  • In the 500m, Andrew Morin (Beverly, Mass.) set a personal best, crossing the finishing line at 1:07.03 to place 23rd.
  • Sophomore Thomas Forde (Mystic, Conn.) also set a new best time in the 500m, placing 36th in 1:09.35.
  • Notching the best time for Stonehill in the 800m race this indoor season was junior Louis Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.), finishing in 1:58.17 and placing 27th.
  • Fifth-year Reilly Johnston (Providence, R.I.) ran in the 3000m race, finishing with the best time of the winter for the Skyhawks, 8:37.47, now ranking 10th in the NEC in the event while placing 15th.
  • Freshman Ian Bubar (Warwick, R.I.) competed in the final event of the day, finishing the 5000m race in 16:09.02, marking the best time of the indoor season for Stonehill.
