Men’s Track and Field Sees Record Broken for Second Week in a Row at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. (April 13, 2024) - The Stonehill College men's track and field team competed in the University of Massachusetts Commonwealth Invite Saturday afternoon at the UMass Track and Field Complex.

As a team, the Skyhawks came in third place out of seven teams with 80 points, finishing behind UMass with 125 points and New Hampshire with 100 points.

FIELD EVENTS

  • Senior Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H.) won the javelin throw with a distance of 55.64m (182' 7"), giving him the third-best toss in the Northeast Conference this spring.
  • Freshman Drew Pierson (Ellsworth, Maine) won the high jump in just his second outdoor meet, reaching a mark of 1.90m (6' 2.75").
  • Sophomore Levi Wurster (Coventry, R.I.) set a personal best in the long jump, placing eighth with a distance of 6.06m (19' 10.75").
  • In the triple jump, junior Parker Hagen (Newport, R.I.) came in third place with a leap of 13.05m (42' 9.75") in the triple jump.
  • Sophomore Eli Grover (Falmouth, Maine) set a personal best in the discus, coming in eighth place with a toss of 41.19m (135' 2").
  • Freshman Max Bishop (Hopkinton, N.H.) set PRs in both the discus and javelin throws, placing 14th in the discus (51.41m (168' 8")) and seventh in the javelin (37.18m (122' 0")).

TRACK EVENTS

  • For the second week in a row, senior Solomon King (Norwood, Mass.) made Stonehill history, breaking the outdoor 100m dash school record with a time of 10.56 seconds to win the event on Saturday. He surpassed the Stonehill school record that was held by Torrey Price (10.61 seconds) since the New England Outdoor Championships on May 9, 2008.
  • Junior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) also set a new PR in the 100m dash, placing fifth with a time of 10.92 seconds. Drugan also won the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 22.09 seconds.
  • Freshman Brody McGrail (Duxbury, Mass.) finished the 100m dash in 11.05 seconds, finishing one place behind Drugan while setting a new personal best time.
  • Sophomore Patrick Morin (Barnstable, Mass.) set a new PR in the 100m, finishing in 11.09 seconds to place seventh.
  • Freshman Jon Dougherty (Reading, Mass.) came in second place in his first outdoor 400m dash, running the race in 50.90 seconds.
  • Freshman Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass.) won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.02 seconds.
  • Senior Patrick Garratt (Westwood, Mass.) placed third in the 5000m run with a time of 15:36.55, and sophomore Nicholas Cozzolino (Westerly, R.I.) came in sixth with a time of 15:45.57.
  • Freshman Ian Bubar (Warwick, R.I.) set a PR in the 5000m run, placing ninth with a time of 16:01.96.
  • In the 4x100m relay race, the team of senior John Paulhamus (Nashua, N.H.), junior Zachary Ofurum (Brockton, Mass.), Dougherty, and Drugan came in third place with a time of 42.38 seconds.
