Juniors Connor Fallon and Richard Harris record two points each for the Skyhawks
FOXBORO, Mass. (December 2, 2014) – Stonehill College scored two times in the second period and once in the third to erase a pair of deficits and earn a 3-3 overtime tie with Saint Michael's College this evening in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action at the Foxboro Sports Center.
Meeting for the only time this season, Stonehill and Saint Michael's earn one point each in the NE-10 standings. The Skyhawks and Purple Knights split a pair of contests last winter, with Stonehill posting a 5-3 victory in Vermont on January 20th.
Juniors Connor Fallon (Weymouth, Massachusetts/South Shore Kings) and Richard Harris (Grand Island, New York/Valley Jr. Warriors) keyed Stonehill's comeback with two points each on a goal and an assist.
Classmate Thomas Jenkins (Canton, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton) also found the back of the net, while juniors Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Connecticut/Gunnery School), Kevin Airoldi (Kennebunk, Maine/Boston Jr. Rangers), Scott Rolph (Bow, New Hampshire/Tilton School), and Garrett White (Wakefield, Massachusetts/Boston Bulldogs) were credited with assists.
Starting his fifth contest of the season in net, senior goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) made a game-high 31 saves, including 12 in the second period.
Senior Jeremy Wong (Montreal, Quebec/Tilton School), junior Mike Schreiner (Saint Albans, Vermont/Norwich), and freshman Eric Salzillo (Johnston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits) each scored for Saint Michael's, while senior defenseman Eric Robinson (Williston, Vermont/Berkshire School) recorded a pair of assists.
Purple Knights senior netminder Dave Donzanti (West Chester, Pennsylvania/Northfield Mount Hermon) stopped 30 shots in 65 minutes between the pipes, including all 11 that he saw in the opening period.
Schreiner opened the scoring for Saint Michael's just 4:34 into the game, with the help of senior forward AJ Pieprzak's (Barrie, Ontario/Ridley College) team-leading seventh assist of the season. The Purple Knights doubled their lead at the 15:07 mark, as Wong scored his first of the season to give the visitors a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission.

After failing to convert on several solid scoring chances in the first 25+ minutes of the game, Stonehill finally broke through 9:10 into the second period when Jenkins picked up his own rebound in front of the net and backhanded a shot past Donzanti. The Skyhawks equalized less than two minutes later, as Rolph and Fallon set up Harris for his second goal of the season at the 10:50 mark.
Saint Michael's would regain its lead before the end of the period, however, as Salzillo fired a shot from a tough angle behind the net that hit off the back of Tasiopoulos and found its way in with less than six minutes remaining before the second intermission.
Still trailing 3-2 with 7:14 elapsed in the third period, the Skyhawks pulled even for the second time in the game when Fallon ripped a shot from the point past a screened Donzanti and into the net.
Both teams had opportunities to win the game in the five-minute overtime session with four shots on goal apiece, but Tasiopoulos and Donzanti stood tall to help their squads earn a point.
Saint Michael's was whistled for the only penalty of the game in the first period, a two-minute slashing minor, but Stonehill was unable to convert with the man advantage.
Stonehill (3-2-2, 3-0-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday night at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, while Saint Michael's (3-3-2, 1-0-2 NE-10) will hit the road on Friday night for a matchup at in-state rival Castleton College.
