Tasiopoulos Earns NE-10 Goaltender Of The Week Honors

Norwell, Mass. native made 34 saves in 2-2 tie with Salve Regina last Thursday

EASTON, Mass. (November 12, 2014) – Stonehill College senior Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) has been recognized as the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Goaltender of the Week for ice hockey, the league office announced yesterday.

Tasiopoulos earns this honor from the NE-10 for the first time this season and the seventh time in his career. The 2013-14 NE-10 Goaltender of the Year collected four weekly honors last season, after picking up one each during his freshman and sophomore campaigns.

In Stonehill's only game last week, Tasiopoulos made 34 saves in 36 opportunities as the Skyhawks skated to a 2-2 tie with Salve Regina University on Thursday night in their home opener at the Foxboro Sports Center. The senior gave up a goal late in the first period and another midway through the second, but stopped the final 23 shots that came his way over the remainder of the contest, allowing Stonehill to come back and tie the game. Tasiopoulos made six saves in the opening 20 minutes, 15 in the second period, 11 in the third, and two in the five-minute overtime session.

Tasiopoulos earns the seventh NE-10 Goaltender of the Week honor of his career after registering 34 saves in a 2-2 tie with Salve Regina last Thursday.

The Norwell, Massachusetts native is coming off one of the most successful seasons for a goaltender in the history of the program in 2013-14. Tasiopoulos led the NE-10 in goals against average (2.26), save percentage (.931), and winning percentage (.684) a year ago, while posting a single season program record five shutouts. Three of those clean sheets came during Stonehill's program record ten-game winning streak, as the Skyhawks captured their first regular season NE-10 title in program history before falling to Saint Michael's College in the NE-10 Championship semifinal round.

In 59 career starts, Tasiopoulos is 29-28-2 (.508) with a 3.01 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. His six career shutouts are the most in program history.

Tasiopoulos, who garnered NE-10 Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman in 2011-12, has also gotten the job done in the classroom, earning NE-10 Honor Roll status all six semesters, and Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition once.

A 2011 graduate of Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts, Tasiopoulos played both ice hockey and baseball for the Tigers. As a senior, he was an All-Independent School League selection for ice hockey while serving as team captain.

Stonehill (0-2-1, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Friday night, as the Skyhawks are set to open their 2014-15 NE-10 slate against Assumption College at Buffone Arena in Worcester, Massachusetts.
