Army tabbed Player and Rookie of the Week, while Palella collects Goaltender of the Week honors as Skyhawks sweep awards for second straight week 

EASTON, Mass. (December 18, 2012) – Stonehill College has swept the weekly ice hockey honors from the Northeast-10 Conference for the second straight week the league office announced today.

Freshman defenseman Travis Army (Englewood, Colo./Worcester Academy) has earned both Player and Rookie of the Week honors from the NE-10, while classmate Matthew Palella (Chicago, Ill./Capital District Selects) has been named Goaltender of the Week. It marks the second straight week Stonehill has swept the NE-10's weekly honors after freshman Dan Graham (Billerica, Mass./Williston Northampton) was named the Player and Rookie of the Week and sophomore Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) received Goaltender of the Week accolades last week.

Army assisted on two of Stonehill's three goals in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime setback to Johnson & Wales University, the Skyhawk's lone game of the week. He helped set up Stonehill's two second period goals, by freshman Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, N.J./Morristown Beard School) and sophomore Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H./Brewster Academy), including one on the power play as the Skyhawks erased a 2-0 deficit after a period of play.

Palella posted 24 saves in just his second collegiate start for Stonehill. He stopped all nine shots on goal in a scoreless second period as the Skyhawks erased a two goal deficit after a period of play to take a 3-2 lead early in the third period.

Army has appeared in 13 of 16 games in his freshman season for Stonehill and ranks third among Skyhawk defensemen with five points on five assists, including one helper in three NE-10 games played and three assists on the power play. He is sixth among Stonehill freshmen for scoring and tied for second in assists. Army ranks sixth in the NE-10 for both defenseman and freshman scoring.

Palella has started two of four games played in his freshman season for Stonehill, posting a 2.73 goals against average and .914 save percentage, while averaging 21.3 saves per game in 176:03 between the pipes. In two NE-10 games played, he has logged 79:26 and registered a 3.02 GAA and .915 save percentage with 21.5 saves per game. Palella posted a season-high 34 stops in a 3-2 setback to Franklin Pierce University on December 1.

Stonehill (7-9-0, 3-1-0 NE-10) is off for the holiday break and returns to action on Wednesday, January 16, to host Becker College for a non-conference matchup at Foxboro Sports Center at 7 p.m.
