Stonehill Wraps Up Day One At NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (May 6, 2023)- After the first day of the Northeast Conference outdoor track and field championships, the Stonehill College men's track and field team saw three runners qualify for events at tomorrow's final day of the meet. 

After the first day, Stonehill is currently in eighth place (eight points). Wagner is leading with 58 points followed by Central Connecticut (43 points), Sacred Heart (37 points), Saint Francis (35 points), and Merrimack (18 points) round out the top five.

Highlights

  • Solomon King led the way Saturday for the Skyhawks as the junior qualified for the finals in both preliminary events he competed in. First, in the 100-meters, King crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 10.56 seconds. Later, in the 200-meter, the junior sprinter qualified for the finals with a fifth-place finish at 21.40 seconds. 
  • Stonehill's other two qualifiers for Sunday were Jace Hollenbach and Connor Hughes who finished in fourth and ninth place respectively. Hollenbach's time ended up being at 4:03.62 and Hughes was not far behind at 4:08.45. 

Other Performances

  • In the high jump, the Skyhawks grabbed two spots within the top 10 led by Jacob Pacheco's sixth-place finish at 1.89 meters (6' 2.5"). Two spots behind Pacheco was King with a leap of 1.84 meters (6'0.5"). With their two top-10 finishes, the sophomore and junior earned Stonehill four points Saturday.
  • The Skyhawks earned a fifth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay Saturday with a time of 8:08.99 which earned the Purple and White four more points. Representing the squad in Saturday's relay were Colin BlackLouis WarnerThomas Forde, and Hughes. 
  • Chris Cox represented Stonehill in the hammer throw and notched a top-10 finish. Cox took ninth place after he had a throw of 46.76 meters (153' 5"). His throw Saturday ended up marking a new career-high for the junior. 
  • In the 110-meter hurdles, Jake Dwyer ended up in 12th place with a time of 17.20 seconds.
  • Jonathan Scampoli partook in the shotput and finished in 16th place with a toss of 12.54 meters (41' 1.75"). 
  • Despite narrowly missing on qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles, Andrew Morin finished with a sub-one minute time of 59.55 seconds for 10th place.
  • Also running in the 200-meter was Shea Drugan and although he did not qualify, he set his own personal best with a time of 21.79 seconds which was good for 10th place. Drugan also ran in the 100-meters preliminary, and while he did not qualify, he set another career-best with a 15th-place finish at 10.92 seconds. John Paulhamus joined King and Drugan in the 100-meter preliminary and came in 18th place (10.96 seconds). His time also marked a new best for his career.
  • In the 800-meter preliminary, Stonehill saw Forde, Warner, and David DiPietro finish in 16th (1:59.88), 19th (2:02.30), and 23rd (2:05.60) respectively. 
  • Joining Hollenbach and Hughes in the 1500m preliminary were Reilly Johnston and Andrew Janus who both finished within the top 25. Johnston crossed the finish line in 21st place at 4:19.00 and right behind him was Janus at 4:20.36.
