King Takes First Place In 200-Meter On Final Day Of NEC Indoor Track and Field Championship

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (February 20, 2023)- On the final day of the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, the Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team saw five top-five finishes led by Solomon King's first place finish in the 200-meter dash. 

The Skyhawks ended up in eighth place in their first NEC Indoor Track and Field Championship with a total of 49 points. Wagner College ended up winning the conference championship with 151 points followed by Central Connecticut (102 points), Saint Francis University (84 points), Fairleigh Dickinson (81 points), and finally Merrimack (70 points) rounded out the top five.

Highlights

  • King had a strong finish to the NEC Indoor Championship today as he brought in the most points for Stonehill (20 points) highlighted by his performance in the 200-meter dash. King narrowly grabbed the top spot with a blistering time of 21.44 seconds and in the 60-meter dash, he crossed the finish line in 6.94 seconds (fourth place). Finally, in the high jump, King had a leap of 1.90-meters (6' 2.75") which was good for fourth place.
  • In the 4,000-meter distance medley relay, the team of Connor HughesRyan LaveryThomas Forde, and Reilly Johnston earned a fourth place finish with an impressive time of 10:27.04. 
  • Stonehill's other relay team which ran in the 4x400-meter consisted of Shea DruganJohn PaulhamusAndrew Morin, and King grabbed fifth place at 3:23.89. The relay team's finish in today's race marked the seventh fastest in the NEC.

 

Other Performances

  • Along with King grabbing a top-10 spot in the high jump, Jacob Pacheco was not far behind in sixth place at 1.85-meters (6' 0.75").
  • Hughes also nothced a top-10 finish today for the Purple and White as the junior ran the mile in 4:25.62 for sixth place. 
  • Parker Hagen was another top-10 finisher for the Skyhawks Monday with a seventh place finish in the triple jump at 13.28m (43' 6.75"). His jump in today's meet ended up being a new personal-record for the sophomore and is the ninth-best leap in the NEC.
  • Stonehill had their most runners (four) in the 5,000-meter led by Colin Black's top-10 finish (eighth) at 15:18.24. Shortly after Black was Patrick Garratt in 12th (15:36.45), followed by Jace Hollenbach in 15th (15:42.60), and finally Aidan Byrne in 19th (15:55.35). 
  • Chris Cox took part in the weighted throw Monday and finished in 17th place with a throw of 12.46-meters (40' 11"). 

Up Next

Stonehill concludes their indoor portion of the schedule and will have some much deserved time off before outdoor season starts up in April. The Skyhawks first outdoor meet comes on Saturday, April 1 at UMass Lowell.
