Game one: Stonehill 4, American International College 1

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • After a scoreless first inning, the Skyhawks struck first in the top of the second when Adinolfi hit a sharp grounder to short who bobbled the ball that allowed Shannon Conte to score after she walked to lead off the inning.
  • In the next at-bat, Kelly brought in Hammond after she laid down a great sacrifice bunt and increased the Stonehill lead to 2-0 after two.
  • Stonehill continued their momentum when in the top of the third, Wodarski led off the inning with her first collegiate home run after sending a deep drive down the left field line.
  • The Skyhawks added on yet another run in the top of the fifth when Hammond ripped a double down the third base line and brought home May Dawes who had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the frame.
  • American International scored their first run of the game in the fifth off a wild pitch, but for the entire game, Stonehill starter, Sklyar Brandemarte, kept the Yellow Jackets at bay. Up untill American International scored, Brandemarte allowed only three hits and fanned three batters.
  • Brandemarte secured the win after retiring six straight yellow jackets to give the Skyhawks a 4-1 win in game one. Her 10th win of the year also marks her sixth straight win and is now also tied for second in the NE10 with 15 complete games.

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Just like the first game, Stonehill struck first again when Wodarski led off the first inning with a single to right that allowed Kelly to score after she walked to lead off the inning.
  • In the second inning, the Skyhawks struck again after alert baserunning from Hammond who scored on a passed ball that made it 2-0.
  • Both sides went scoreless in the third, but in the fourth, Stonehill tacked on one more run courtesy of a Nardelli RBI single that went past the Yellow Jackets' shortstop to score Adinolfi who had singled at the start of the inning.
  • Throughout the day, Stonehill starter, Kelly Mayette, shut down the American International College offense by not allowing one run and just only five hits. The Yellow Jackets threatened in the bottom of the third with a walk that loaded the bases with one out. However, Mayette ended the rally when struck out the next batter and induced a groundout to end the inning.
  • After a single that led off the bottom of the fourth for American International College, Mayette went on to retire the next 11-straight batters to secure the 3-0 shutout victory.
