Softball Splits With Pace In Doubleheader, 2-3 and 4-3

PLEASENTVILLE, N.Y. (April 2, 2022)- The Stonehill College softball team earned a split at Pace University Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader action at Pace Softball Field as the Skyhawks pulled out a 4-3 victory in game two after falling 3-2 in game one.

Game one: Stonehill 2, Pace 3

Standout Performances: 

Key Moments:

  • Stonehill and Pace went back and forth with scoreless three innings before the Setters struck first when Zoie Iverson hit an RBI triple to right field.
  • Despite being down 1-0 going into the sixth, the Skyhawks pulled ahead courtesy of a two-run inning led by RBIs from Dawes and Conte. Dawes ripped an RBI that scored Maeve Proulx to make it 1-1. In the next at-bat, Conte singled to center which allowed Paige Wodarski to score for the 2-1 advantage. 
  • Paced ended up reclaiming their lead after a two-run inning of their own that featured a go-ahead RBI from Jade Alvarado that made it 3-2. 
  • The Skyhawks were able to get a runner in scorer's position after Chloe Kelly drew a walk and moved up to second from a sacrifice bunt by Emily Nardelli. However, Pace starter, Gisselle Garcia ended the Stonehill rally to secure the 3-2 win.

Loss: Stonehill-Kelly Mayette (1-7)

Game two: Stonehill 4, Pace 3

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Unlike the first game, it was Stonehill who struck first courtesy of an RBI double off the bat of Wodarski. She drove home Kelly who had singled to lead off the inning. 
  • However, Pace quickly took the lead back (3-1) at the bottom of the first with a three-run RBI triple by Brianna Shea.
  • Stonehill and Pace continued to go back and forth with the Skyhawks evening things at three with a two-run second inning with RBI doubles from both Hammond and Adinolfi. After Hammond cut the deficit to one (3-2), Adinolfi sent a double to deep right-center that brought around Hammond (3-3).
  • After a scoreless third, the purple and white pulled ahead for good (4-3) when Kelly scored Megan Weis after she had walked to lead off the frame. 
  • Despite the three-run first inning, Brandemarte shut down the Setters offense that included a spurt where she retired the last five batters of the game that featured her striking out the side to end the contest for the 4-3 victory.

Loss: Pace-Mackenzie Garrick (2-4)

Up Next:

Stonehill returns home for an NE10 doubleheader against Franklin Pierce on Saturday, April 9 at noon. Saturday's game also marks "Coach Ken Day" where the Skyhawks will honor former softball head coach Ken LeGrice, who passed away last May after a long and courageous battle with cancer in a ceremony kicking off at 9:30 a.m. Meanwhile, hits the road taking on Dominican College on Tuesday, April 5 in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
