GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 1, 2022)-After coming off a split yesterday, the Stonehill College softball ended up dropping both games to Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon.

Game 1: Stonehill 1, Adelphi 3

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Stonehill got the scoring started in the first inning when Wodarski ripped an RBI single through the left side and drove in Chloe Kelly who had reached from a throwing error that led off the inning.
  • However, Adelphi tied things up in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of an Alexa Sacripante RBI double to left field.
  • For the next four innings, Stonehill starter, Kelly Mayette kept the Panthers offense at bay by not allowing a run including a stretch where she retired six straight batters.
  • Adelphi threatened in the bottom of the fifth when Angela Lignelli hit a triple to right to have a runner in scoring position with one out. The Skyhawks escaped the jam after Mayette induced a fly out to left and then Alexa Adinolfi threw out Lignelli on a great one-hop throw.
  • The Panthers ended up pulling ahead in the sixth scoring two runs (3-1) that featured an RBI triple by Sacripante.

Pitching Records:

Win: Adelphi-Lindsey Hibbs (10-3)

Loss: Stonehill-Kelly Mayette (1-6)

Game 2: Stonehill 0, Adelphi 8

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Game two was a pitcher's duel as Skylar Brandemarte shut down the Panthers offense for five innings. In that scoreless span, she retired seven straight Panthers which included two of her four strikeouts.
  • Stonehill threatened early in the first after singles from both Emily Nardelli and Wodarski to have runners at first and second but the rally was cut short by Adelphi starter, Lindsey Hibbs
  • Midway through in the bottom of the third it was the Panthers turn to threaten after a single with two outs. However, Brandemarte got out of the inning when she forced a groundout to end the frame.
  • Later in the top of the sixth, the Skyhawks had runners at first second after Kelly reached from an error and Wodarski walked. Unfortunately, Hibbs ended the Skyhawks threat again.
  • Adelphi broke things open in the bottom half of the frame when it exploded for eight runs that featured a two-run RBI double from Courtney Wengryn.

Pitching Records:

Win: Adelphi-Lindsey Hibbs (11-3)

Loss: Stonehill-Skylar Brandemarte (4-7)
