EASTON, Mass. (April 10, 2022)-On a day when the Stonehill College softball team honored the late coach Ken LeGrice, the Skyhawks did what Coach LeGrice did 197 times in his career, and that's winning. Stonehill swept Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader by scores of 3-2 and 7-5 at Father Gartland Field on Sunday afternoon.

Game one: Stonehill 3, Saint Michael's 2

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Stonehill got the scoring started in the second inning courtesy of an RBI double to center that plated both Alyssa Grossi and Hammond. Hammond started the inning off after she ripped a single through the left side and then later in the frame, Grossi drew a walk.
  • A couple of innings later in the fourth, Kelly struck again when she drove in Hammond who singled past shortstop early in the inning. Kelly's three-hit and three RBI day marked in-game career-highs for the freshman as she has recorded multiple hits in back-to-back games.
  • Despite Saint Michael's cutting the deficit down to one (3-2) after Angelica Johns scored Hope Hiscock, Stonehill starter Skylar Brandemarte shut down their rally by forcing a pop out and ground out to escape the threat. Overall on the day, Brandemarte was stellar not allowing a run through the first four innings. During her scoreless stretch, she had a point between the first and second where she retired five straight batters and two via strikeout.
  • In the seventh, Saint Michael's could not muster any runs as Brandemarte retired the side to hold on for the 3-2 victory. With her win, Brandemarte has now registered two wins in a row and struck out 11, and only allowed one run in that stretch.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill-Skylar Brandemarte (6-7)

Loss: Saint Michael's-Jackie Cherry (5-7)

Game two: Stonehill 7, Saint Michael's 5

Key Moments:

  • In game two, it was Saint Michael's who struck first courtesy of a Jenna Hoops home run to right field for the quick 1-0 lead.
  • However, Stonehill responded in the next inning when Nardelli launched her first career home run with a deep drive to left field.
  • After being shut out in the fifth, the Skyhawks offense exploded for six runs (7-1) that featured RBIs two-run RBIs from both Nardelli and Dawes. Nardelli's and Dawes multi-RBI game are both firsts of their careers.
  • Even down six, the Purple Knights had a big offensive inning of their own when they plated four runs (7-5) that included Hoops' second home run on the afternoon which scored three that made the score 7-4.
  • After Saint Michael's scored their fifth run, Brandemarte came in and shut down the Saint Michael's offense by not allowing a hit or run in her 1.1 innings of work for her first collegaite save.
  • Kelly Mayette got the start for the purple and white in game two and was solid through five innings. During her start, Mayette escaped an early jam in the first when the Purple Knights loaded the bases before she ended the inning with a strikeout.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill-Kelly Mayette (2-7)

Loss: Saint Michael's-Kelleigh Simpson (0-4)

Save: Stonehill-Skylar Brandemarte (1)
