Stonehill Swept In Home Opener (3-1, 5-2) By The College Of Saint Rose

EASTON, Mass. (March 26, 2022)-For the first time in 12 days, the Stonehill College softball team finally took the field for its home opener to begin Northeast-10 Conference play with a doubleheader against visiting The College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon at Father Gartland Field and was swept, 3-1 and 5-2 by the guests.

Key Moments:

  • Neither side could find any offense through the first three innings as Stonehill starter, Skylar Brandemarte only allowed three hits and struck out three Golden Knights to keep the offense at bay. 
  • Stonehill threatened early when the squad loaded up the bases with one out after Shannon Conte was hit by a pitch. However, despite only having one out, Saint Rose ended the rally when Golden Knights starter Hannah Breen, struck out the next two batters. 
  • The Golden Knights ended up striking first in the top of the fourth when Savannah Liverio recorded the RBI for Saint Rose. 
  • In the next inning, Saint Rose added on two more runs (3-0) that featured an RBI from Mattison Muller
  • However, Stonehill cut the deficit down to two (3-1) when Adinolfi recorded an RBI that scored Kelly who doubled to lead off the inning. 
  • Despite the loss, Brandemarte struck out five batters on the day and it marked the third time this season she struck out five or more hitters.

  • In game two, Saint Rose struck in the first inning after a Liverio RBI single for the quick 1-0 lead.
  • After the Golden Knights added two more runs between the second and third (4-0), the Skyhawks cut the deficit down to three (4-1) when Grossi launched her first collegiate home run to left. 
  • Stonehill continued their momentum in the bottom of the fourth when Wodarski drove in May Dawes (4-2) who had singled earlier in the inning.
  • However, Saint Rose went up by three again (5-2) when Alexandra Deeter homered to left in the sixth.

Loss: Stonehill: Kelly Mayette (1-3)

Up Next: Stonehill continues their NE10 play tomorrow, March 26 traveling to Franklin Pierce University for a doubleheader with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. The College of Saint Rose plays Bentley in NE10 doubleheader action tomorrow starting at noon.
