Maxey Named Northeast-10 Volleyball Rookie of the Week for Final Week of Regular Season

Freshman standout was also selected to All-Rookie Team this week

EASTON, Mass. (November 9, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) was this week named the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week of November 1-7 by the conference office. She earns her fourth nomination of the season concurrently with her selection to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team this week.

Maxey led Stonehill with 3.91 digs per game, and was second on the team with an average of 2.64 kills, as the Skyhawks won three straight conference matches this week to earn the fifth seed in the NE-10 Volleyball Championship. She also racked up 10 service aces and added four total blocks during the week. In a 3-2 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, Maxey led all players with 15 kills and added 16 digs, three total blocks (one solo), and three aces. She collected a team-high 15 digs and five aces on Friday in a sweep of Le Moyne College, and followed with 12 digs, seven kills and two aces to help sweep The College of Saint Rose in Saturday's regular-season finale.

Through the conclusion of Stonehill's regular season, Maxey leads the team with 371 total digs, and stands third on the team with 207 total kills. She has registered double figures in both kills and digs six times this season, setting career highs of 17 kills at Southern Connecticut State University on October 29, and 24 digs against Merrimack College on September 22.

Stonehill (15-12, 11-4 NE-10) visits American International College this evening for their NE-10 quarterfinal matchup at 7 p.m.
