Freshman averaged 4.36 digs per game in 2-1 weekend for Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) was today named the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week by the Conference office. Maxey averaged a team-leading 4.36 digs per game and was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Skyhawks went 2-1 at the Bentley Invitational over the weekend.

Maxey's best performance came in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Holy Family University, when she tallied a team-high 22 digs and had four service aces. She also recorded double figures in digs on Friday, with 12 in a 3-0 sweep of Georgian Court, and on Saturday with 14 against Bridgeport.

Through Stonehill's first six matches, Maxey currently ranks in the top ten in the NE-10 in digs, totaling 94 for an average of 3.92 per game.

Stonehill (2-4, 0-0 NE-10) will face American International College and New York Institute of Technology on Saturday at NYIT beginning at noon. The Skyhawks play their first home match on September 22, taking on Merrimack College at 7 p.m.
