Thompson racks up 30 digs, Arvidson puts down 10 kills in win
EASTON, Mass. (October 9, 2010) – The Stonehill College volleyball team notched their third Northeast-10 victory of the week on Saturday, sweeping Saint Michael’s College 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) at home.
Senior Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) anchored the Stonehill defense, amassing a season-high 30 digs, and freshman Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) notched a game-high 10 kills. Freshman Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) added nine kills and 12 digs.
Saint Michael’s was led by seven kills from freshman Chelsey Covitz (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and 21 digs by sophomore Courtney Dunne (Hopkinton, Mass./Bancroft School).
The Skyhawks found themselves in a 14-9 hole midway through the third set, but put together a seven-point run to climb back to a 16-14 lead, and allowed the Purple Knights just two more points on the way to a 25-16 final score.
Stonehill (8-7, 6-0 NE-10) next visits American International College on October 12 at 7 p.m. Today’s match concludes this weekend’s “Dig Pink” fundraiser to support breast cancer research and treatment through the Side-Out Foundation.
